Comments on the upcoming US Elections

On Thursday evening, I was listening to a radio program on VCY.  They asked people to call in and state who they supported for president and why.  They received about two dozen or so calls.  I was not so much surprised that Mike Huckabee got about 45% of the votes, but that Ron Paul got the same amount of votes, about 45%.  (There were a couple of votes for Duncan Hunter, and a couple for Hillary Clinton and one for Barack Obama.)  Those calling in for Ron Paul all stated they support him because he is a strict constitutionalist and 100% pro-life.  Those supporting Mike Huckabee stated that they believed that he is God’s choice.  I initially also thought that Mike Huckabee was going to be the best candidate, but there have been a lot of very troubling things that have come out about him lately, and I fear he is another deceiver, a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  After having been fooled by Bush, I won’t base my opinion on what a candidate says, but on what he does.  I won’t go into all that right now, but suffice it to say that Bush claimed to be a born again Christian, but has been acting in opposition to God’s word.  “By their fruits ye shall know them.”

I also noticed while driving around, that there are very few bumper stickers in support of any of the presidential candidates.  The only ones I have seen have been for Ron Paul and a couple for Barack Obama.

Let me make clear that I do not support Ron Paul.  However, it appears that he has an enormous following, but the media (including Fox) is totally ignoring him.  Fox won’t include him in the debate.  One of the ladies who called into the radio program said that she was polled by one of the national polls.  When they asked her whom she supported, they offered certain choices, which did not include Ron Paul.  She kept telling them she supported Ron Paul and asked why his name was not mentioned, but got no answer.  As I said, I do not support Ron Paul (actually I am very disappointed with the candidates and cannot support any of them whole-heartedly), but I find it very troubling, that the media controls who is and is not a valid candidate.

It will be very interesting to see what the primaries show, assuming, of course, that they aren’t “fixed.”  And that’s another whole other issue.  I am not so sure that there isn’t going to be some tampering with the results.

Happy New Year?
Probably Not

2007 was not a good year.  The big news around the world was the weather.  There was more severe weather in all parts of the world in one year, than in recorded history.  We saw terrible droughts, extreme flooding, and now record snow falls, etc.  There have been a record number of earthquakes and they just keep increasing in number and intensity.  We had destructive mud slides and wild fires.  We saw lots of conflicts, turmoil, and wars.  The latest blow-up is in our ally Pakistan’s country.  The economy is in trouble, not just in the US, but world wide.  Most people don’t even realize the extent of the economic situation.  The stock market appears to be holding on.  However, that’s an illusion.  The Fed has been pouring untold billions into the market to keep it from crashing.  How long can they keep this up?

So what does it look like for 2008?  Our President is pushing full steam ahead on the “Middle East Peace Process” which will not bring peace, but will eventually lead to Armageddon.  President Bush is scheduled to go to that region next month.  The head of the security detail to protect him is the same man who was in charge of Rabin’s security on the day he was assassinated.  With the way things are in that region, an attempt on the President’s life is certainly not outside the realm of possibilities.  I would even say that odds are extremely high for such a thing occurring.  Those who might make such an attempt include Hamas, Israeli right wing opponents to the peace process, al-qaida, and probably others.  There might even be more than one attempt on his life.  Having announced his visit well in advance wasn’t very smart either, since that gives his enemies plenty of time to plan.  The big question is, will they succeed?  If such a terrible thing were to happen, what then?  The possibilities of what would happen next are endless, but none of them would be good.

The threat of World War III breaking out in earnest is about as high as it has ever been.  The instability in the Middle East is so great, that it won’t take much of a spark to ignite a catastrophic war.  There are so many flashpoints, odds are far better for than against.

Here in the US, things don’t look very promising either.  The economy is far from steady and I see that, in addition to the housing market, the next big issue will be credit card defaults.  Those have already started and will only increase.  As credit dries up, so will consumer spending.  In addition to that, prices will continue to rise, because of several things.  First of all, the dollar keeps losing value, increasing the cost of imported goods, and we import an awful lot of what we consume.  Many countries are already moving away from the dollar to other currencies, which will only increase the dollar’s decline.  At the same time, if droughts, severe weather, and pestilence continues to decrease our food production, grocery prices will continue their upward spiral.

I think we are in for some very hard times.  If you have not prepared, physically, yes, but much more importantly, spiritually, the coming year may well be disastrous for you.  But the Lord will provide for His own.  Are you His?  If not, find out how to be sure:  Salvation - What does it mean?  And why do I need it?
